Up to no Good

A look at what I’ve been up to….

The background piece is a quilt in progress. All of it is being constructed from recycled materials. Mostly jeans.

The top two bags are brand new material I had laying around. Both are lined in a sunny yellow. Laying by my machine right now is a floral bag ready to be adorned with butterflies.

I said sometime back I would post pictures of some of the things I make. I finally made myself stop and take some shots before the pieces were gone. I rarely keep anything I make.  I also tend to make only things that can be used. I am not a big fan of fancy pillows. The bags I make are to replace plastic bags at the store with style. So many uses they have!

What’s been keeping you busy!?

*This is a Sticky Post it will remain at the top till the contest is over!

I have a confession to make. I kind of, sort of, might love Valentine’s Day. Maybe. It’s not like me to be all gushy and frankly there are times people in love make me want to vomit rainbows but I like Valentines’ Day. I miss the days of our youth when every one had a special box or lunch bag to receive notes of love from everyone in the class. I remember sitting at home with my stash of cards selecting specific ones for each person making sure that what it said fit the way I thought of that person just right.

But now I am an adult, I no longer get tokens of love and mushiness from others my age. I do get them from my children which I display proudly till the paper is faded and the glue has crumbled. So this year I decided when I saw valentine candy displayed the very day after Christmas that I would have a giveaway and the lucky winner would get my very special Valentine dish towel and a crocheted sponge.

Do you like? Here is how to get it.

  • The winner of the towel is the one that woo’s me with the best love story. It can be the story of how you met your spouse or all about your first love. It could also be fictional or your fantasy. Anything goes as long as it’s romantic and mushy and makes me want to vomit rainbows.
  • You must be willing to give me your address to send it to. I promise not to stalk.
  • You can leave your story in comments or if it is lengthy you can send it to my email stickydoorknobs@gmail.com
  • I will post the winner’s story on Valentine’s Day!

So come on and let’s have some fun!

I have made a career of hobbies in the most half assed ways one could do so. I dabble here and dabble there and in the end I hardly ever end up with a complete project. If it’s finished, I must have really liked it. If it’s not finished then I’m thinking real hard about it, good things take time.

I took up the art of crochet recently for about a day. I always scoffed at ladies who claimed to do it, “Oh that seems so boring, I don’t think I could handle it!” Well let me tell you, I don’t think I have ever truly had to eat my words worse than the day I realized with crushing clarity that I haven’t an f’n clue how to crochet. And I considered picking up knitting! I fell in love with a pattern for a dishtowel, it’s a square for the love of yarn how hard could it be?!  I conferred with mom and she taught me the language, yes there is a special code. And she showed me a stitch or two and then she left. She left me alone with my hook and yarn and I failed miserably. In the end I discovered through the the Information Superhighway that indeed she taught me how to DC in the 3rd CH all wrong.

I think I’ll stick to embroidery. Much more chance to liven things up with a little color than some boring old yarn. But I’ll hand it to you knitters out there, I’ll never be in your knitter circle I can promise you that!

~I am going to have a first ever give away soon! So sit up straight, all three of you! We’re about to have us some company!

I love rubber stamps. I drool over them at the local craft store. I stand there and go over each one and then go back and narrow them down. When there is a sale like the one after Christmas I get all shaky like a coke addict in a room full of…well coke. I got a twenty dollar set for ten bucks that day and a six dollar stamp for four. I come home, whip out the ink and the littlest kids and I stamp the everloving crap out of the new ones and the old ones. They are genius. (The stamps.) *OK well the kids too.

So, you can imagine my excitement when this was in my email box.

My life is surprisingly together the last two days. It feels odd.

My house is cleaner than it’s been in months.
My couch cushions have once again been reunited with the couch.
Every single bed has been washed from blanket to sheet.
My dishes are done.
The kids are clean and where they belong.
I even have money in the bank.

I feel like a whole new person. I hope it lasts a really long time.

On another note, if you haven’t noticed I added my Etsy shop to the top of the sidebar. I would have liked to put the mini up that shows pictures but alas it doesn’t work here in WordPress world. Go figure. You can’t have it all right? I am super super excited for the mailman to come with my latest obsession, I ordered two books from Jenny Hart with embroidery patterns. Yes, embroidery like Grandma used to do. BUT the catch is the patterns are modernized and up to date. Unicorns, fairies and toadstools OH MY! I can barely contain myself. I will admit though that I like the old patterns too. My favorites are the day of the week towels and pillowcases trimmed with flowers or butterflies.  A nice little project to keep my fingers busy while I wait for the bus, watch T.V. on chilly fall evenings and when we visit the in-laws. Lord knows I hate being idle!

Also I mentioned before that I attached my two blogs over there in the sidebar as well. If you haven’t had the chance to check that out please do! I have gotten some awesome shots this summer! I called it a Blog in Pictures, mostly because I don’t intend to do any chatting. Maybe some day I’ll turn it into some sort of theme site where others can contribute maybe on certain days with certain themes. I have been following Skywatch Mondays which I discovered through Doug so who knows what might be next!
